Clubs! That seems to be the big question coming from students right now. Just recently, a student in the Chapel Hill area of North Carolina reached out to learn more about starting a club. We already have a club at Research Triangle High School in Durham, and there’s a high school student on the other side of the state in Charlotte. Little by little, this is how the VMA is taking root in new places. For many of you, this newsletter may be your only window into what’s happening across the VMA. If you’re in the Boston area, you might participate in a concert or event. But what does the VMA look like if you’re in Texas? Omaha? Or for that student in Seattle? The answer is courage. When a student goes out to perform for a community, a teacher may help facilitate the concert and provide musical guidance, but the experience always belongs to the students. They and their families step into the real-world experience of organizing outreach, connecting with a community, and putting their music to work. Our Junior members learn that doing good deeds are usually thankless endeavors, but they reap the fruits of what they sow. Your patience is appreciated, and your questions are always welcome.
