Volunteer Musicians for the Arts empowers young musicians to make a difference through fundraising.
Through the Sweet Sounds of Service campaign, students raise funds that help support VMA’s Service Initiatives — Music for Meals, Music for Shelters, and Music for Healing — extending assistance to organizations serving communities facing hunger, hardship, and medical challenges.
Service Initiatives
VMA's Service Initiatives
Stewardship is the second pillar of VMA. By participating in the Sweet Sounds of Service campaign, students learn that music can be used not only to serve others, but also to steward resources that strengthen communities and support those in need.
Music for Meals
Music for Meals supports organizations working to address food insecurity. Student fundraising helps advance hunger-relief efforts while outreach concerts raise awareness and inspire community involvement.
Music for Healing
Music for Healing supports organizations that provide care and stability to individuals and families facing medical challenges. Student fundraising extends the impact of these organizations while outreach concerts bring comfort and encouragement to communities.
Music for Shelters
Music for Shelters supports organizations serving individuals and families experiencing hardship. Student fundraising helps strengthen these efforts while outreach concerts encourage awareness, dignity, and hope.
Service. Stewardship. Leadership.
How Fundraising & Impact Work
Students raise funds through the Sweet Sounds of Service campaign using Give Lively’s online platform. Each student can share their personal fundraiser with family, friends, and supporters while performing outreach concerts in their communities.
Student-Led Fundraising
Students launch a personal fundraiser and share their Give Lively campaign link with supporters. Many students also organize team campaigns through their VMA school clubs.
Service Through Music
While fundraising, students continue performing outreach concerts in assisted living communities, hospitals, libraries, and other public spaces.
Shared Community Impact
Funds raised support both outreach programming and charitable grants aligned with each student’s service focus.

Support the MissionThe Ripple Effect of One Performance
Sometimes a single outreach concert can inspire something much larger. In 2015, a Volunteer Musicians performance at Massachusetts General Hospital inspired the creation of a student outreach ensemble at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University.
Today, the Peabody String Sinfonia continues to share music with communities in Baltimore — carrying forward the same spirit of service that inspired its founding.
