Students may earn recognition through leadership roles, outreach concerts, and completion of the VMA Leadership Initiative.

Two Pathways to Recognition

VMA students may earn recognition through leadership roles or through the National Service Awards, a structured service pathway completed through the Leadership Initiative.

Student Leadership Recognition

Students who serve in VMA leadership roles may receive recognition for their service and stewardship in support of the organization’s mission.

  • Serve in an elected or appointed VMA leadership role
  • Meet the annual stewardship commitment
  • Complete at least one verified outreach concert

Recognition: VMA Distinguished Leadership Certificate

National Service Awards

Students who complete the Leadership Initiative earn National Service Awards recognizing sustained outreach engagement, leadership development, and stewardship through music.

  • Complete outreach concerts
  • Participate in leadership workshops (Silver and Gold)
  • Fulfill annual stewardship commitments

VMA National Service Awards

The VMA National Service Awards recognize students who demonstrate meaningful commitment to outreach, leadership development, and stewardship through music through completion of the Leadership Initiative.

National Service Award

Bronze

  • Complete 2 outreach concerts
  • Raise $250 in support of VMA outreach
  • No workshop requirement
  • 100 volunteer hours awarded upon completion
National Service Award

Silver

  • Complete 2 outreach concerts
  • Participate in 5 leadership workshops
  • Raise $1,250 in support of VMA outreach
  • 175 volunteer hours awarded upon completion
National Service Award

Gold

  • Complete 2 outreach concerts
  • Participate in 10 leadership workshops
  • Raise $2,500 in support of VMA outreach
  • 250 volunteer hours awarded upon completion

Special Recognition

Additional recognition may be awarded to students who expand VMA opportunities in their communities or demonstrate sustained outreach service through music.

Club Founder Recognition

Students who establish a new VMA club may receive special recognition for expanding opportunities for outreach and service through music in their communities.

  • Recruit student members
  • Complete at least one outreach concert

Outreach Service Milestones

Students who share music through outreach concerts may receive recognition for important service milestones throughout their VMA journey.

  • 1 Outreach Concert – Outreach Service Recognition
  • 5 Outreach Concerts – Community Service Recognition
  • 10 Outreach Concerts – Distinguished Outreach Service

Long-Term Recognition

Students who remain active in VMA over multiple years may receive special recognition honoring sustained leadership, outreach service, and stewardship in support of the organization’s mission.

Distinguished Ambassador

Awarded to students who demonstrate sustained commitment to VMA through multiple years of leadership and outreach service. This distinction recognizes students who inspire others through consistency, mentorship, and community engagement.

Distinguished Legacy Leader

Awarded to students who complete several years of meaningful leadership and outreach service through VMA. This distinction honors students who leave a lasting impact on their communities through music and compassionate leadership.

Service Through Music

Through outreach concerts, leadership development, and stewardship, VMA students learn that music can be a powerful force for compassion, connection, and community impact. Students of all ages are invited to participate in the Junior Program and begin their own journey of service through music.
