Julianna Stratton, VMA Intern

College of the Holy Cross

Julianna Stratton is a third-year neuroscience and music double major at Holy Cross in the College Honors Program. Hailing from Metro Detroit, Julianna started her musical journey at 5 on violin before picking up the cello on a whim (she thought playing a big instrument was cool, and then decided she liked it). Now, she has been studying cello for the last 13 years, most recently under the instruction of Dr. Mina Kim.

Throughout her musical journey, Julianna has performed as a student member of the Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra and a professional member of the Grosse Pointe Symphony Orchestra, as well as various chamber ensembles and pit orchestras. At the college, she has played with the College Orchestra and Chamber Ensembles since her freshman year, and has collaborated with the Alternate College Theater and the Clark University Dance Program for other performances during her time on the Hill.

Beyond her concert experience, Julianna plays an active role in the college musical community, serving as chair of the HC Orchestra Executive Board and co-chair of the music department's Student Advisory Council. For the VMA, she is working to create a Worcester chapter of college students that will put on fundraisers and concerts to better the musical literacy and experience of young music students in the area, and increase the community’s access to classical music.
