Meet David: A Young Musician, Athlete, and Rising Leader
At the VMA Foundation, we are always inspired by the different paths that bring young people to music, service, and leadership. David Glushkov, a Newton native and rising junior at Commonwealth School in Boston, is someone whose life is shaped by two major passions: piano and fencing.
As a pianist, David has already achieved significant recognition. He recently earned a Gold Medal at the AADGT competition and had the honor of performing at the winners' concert at Carnegie Hall. He continues to challenge himself with ambitious repertoire and is preparing for an upcoming appearance at the International Burgos Festival in Spain, where his program will include works by Bach, Chopin, Beethoven, and Schubert.
But music is only one side of David's busy life.
Fencing is also a major part of his journey. As a dedicated competitive fencer, David has pursued opportunities at the national level, including competing at the Summer Fencing National Tournament. Balancing serious commitments in both music and athletics requires discipline, focus, and a willingness to continually grow—qualities that are evident in everything David takes on.
David recently reached out to the VMA Foundation to learn more about our work and explore ways he might become involved. We were especially encouraged by his genuine interest in connecting his musical journey with opportunities to perform, engage with others, and become part of a broader community.
At VMA, we believe that young musicians are more than the awards they receive or the stages on which they perform. They are students, athletes, artists, leaders, and individuals with unique stories and interests. David represents that spirit beautifully.
As a rising junior, he is entering an exciting chapter of his journey, with new opportunities ahead in both music and fencing. We are delighted to get to know David and look forward to exploring how he might share his talents and enthusiasm with the VMA community.
